GMO Testing

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) are living cells with a purposefully modified genetic code. GMO are developed to help farmers produce better yielding crops, incorporate enhanced nutritional properties or produce their new varieties, some of which may be targeted to serve a specific purpose as having herbicidal or insecticidal properties.

However, sometimes GMO products can mix with non-GMO products thus necessitating the need for testing to provide accurate labelling. Testing is also required to ensure that GM foods are safe for consumption. At VIMTA, we offer comprehensive services for detection of GMO in accordance with the regulatory requirements. Our test offerings include:

  • Qualitative and Quantitative analysis by RT-PCR
  • Analysis of products obtained from GMO field studies
    • Chemical composition analysis – Proximate analysis, Amino acids, Fatty acid composition, Vitamins, Minerals, Metals, Secondary metabolites, Phytosterols, Carotenoids
    • Information about the DNA insertion(s) into the plant genome; Characterization and description of the inserted genetic material, number of insertion sites, organisation of the inserted genetic material at each insertion site
