Bromate & Other Disinfectants

Bromate is normally produced as a result of ozonisation during disinfection of water or photo-activation. Though disinfectants are normally required for purification of water; their quantity beyond permissible limits may result in adverse health effects. Bromate is also likely to cause cancer. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) therefore mandates testing for Bromates and other disinfectants to ensure that it is within maximum permissible limit.
